Can Laughter Heal?
Newfoundland is known for its comedy. Join us as we explore the science behind laughter and brain health; then meet up with some of the provinces best known comedians to test out the science and discuss why laughing is a great way to stay healthy and deal with the stress of life’s challenges.
In this episodes we meet with Dr. Michelle Ploughman to learn how laughter impacts the brain and she challenges us to an experiment. To make sure I am funny enough to make it work, we recruit the fellas from the Best Kind Comedy Tour – Mike Lynch, Brian Aylward and Colin Hollett to see how laughing activates our emotions, our movements, our thinking and reasoning. Its essentially a workout for our brain
To find out more about the role of laughter in our culture and what makes something funny – I chat with the one and only Mary Walsh. Mary entertains with stories and first hand experience of what (in her expert opinion) it means to be funny and how to add it into our lives.
To experience laughter myself, I track down Burlington born and raised Shawn Majumder. He explains how its hard to be funny when we are stressed so he takes me on a “De-Stressing” side by side tour where we practice laugh yoga to calm my nerves.
We are a funny bunch here in NL so lets see why that’s a good thing for our long term health!
