The Power of Pets
In this episode we ask the question – are pets good for our health? From learning about research with scientists to visiting workplaces with therapy dogs, and even braving the elements of dog sledding in Labrador – we learn about how our connection with animals may be deeper than we think.
Dr. Carolyn Walsh from the Canine Research Unit at Memorial University joins me in QV to have a chat about how deep the connection actually is between humans and our pets. From bonding to love hormones – we really do love our pets.
I investigate further and chat with Faith Warren from the Dog House and then go to our RNC head quarters to chat with Sam Burke about their police dog Stella. We learn how animals can be used to relieve stress in the workplace – even ones as stressful as the RNC.
To experience it for myself, I head to GooseBay Labrador to meet with Scott Hudson – owner of Northern Lights Dog Sledding. He teaches us about the historical and cultural role that animals have played in the survival and livelihood of indigenous people. I then get my first ever experience driving a dog sled in the beautiful snow covered surroundings.
